Ždiar sits right at the foot of the High Tatras, and I mean right there — you can practically touch the mountains from your window. What’s great about this spot is that you’re still in a proper village with a few local shops and that excellent traditional restaurant down the road, but you’re also perfectly positioned for hiking or skiing depending on the season. The whole area feels authentically Slovak, not touristy at all, which I really appreciated.

The Accommodation

The room itself surprised me — it’s more spacious than photos suggest, and they’ve managed to blend traditional wood furnishings with modern amenities really well. The bed was genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and there’s actually decent storage space, which you don’t always get in these mountain places. The bathroom’s compact but well-designed, with good water pressure and plenty of hot water after long hiking days.

There’s parking right on-site, which honestly saved me so much hassle — you know how tricky mountain village parking can be. The hosts speak decent English and were incredibly helpful with local recommendations, plus they actually live nearby so they’re genuinely knowledgeable about the area. WiFi worked fine for checking weather and trail conditions, though honestly, you’ll probably want to disconnect anyway with those mountain views right outside.
