When I first pulled up to Chata Kamila, honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this mountain chalet in Slovakia’s Low Tatras region. But you know what? This four-star gem completely caught me off guard. The traditional wooden architecture feels authentic — not like those cookie-cutter alpine resorts you see everywhere — and there’s something genuinely welcoming about the way it sits nestled against the hillside near the Lúčka ski lift.

Location & Mountain Access

Here’s the thing about Horná Lehota — it’s one of those Slovak mountain villages that locals actually know about, but tourists often overlook. The chalet sits right by the ski lift, which means you’re literally steps from the slopes in winter. I mean, you can practically roll out of bed and onto the mountain. During summer, those same trails become perfect hiking routes, and the views across the valley are honestly spectacular on clear days.

The Room Experience

My room had that cozy mountain cabin vibe without feeling cramped or outdated. The wood paneling could’ve felt heavy, but they’ve balanced it with lighter furnishings and decent-sized windows that actually let in plenty of natural light. The beds are properly comfortable — not too soft, not too firm — and the heating works well, which matters more than you’d think when you’re staying in the mountains during shoulder season.

Dining & Atmosphere

The on-site restaurant serves hearty Slovak mountain food that hits the spot after a day outdoors. I’m talking proper goulash, schnitzel, and local trout — nothing fancy, but executed well with generous portions. The dining room has these big windows overlooking the slopes, and in the evenings, it becomes this warm, social hub where guests actually talk to each other instead of staring at their phones.
