When I first spotted Chata Rusalka tucked away in the Slovak countryside near Nemecká, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from this three-star property. The name “Rusalka” — which refers to Slavic water spirits — immediately caught my attention, and the building itself has this charming mountain lodge feel that’s both rustic and welcoming. You know what struck me most? The way it sits so naturally in the landscape, like it’s been part of these hills for decades.

Location & Setting

The location is actually brilliant if you’re looking to escape the usual tourist crowds. Krpačovo is this quiet village that most people drive through without stopping, but that’s exactly what makes it special. You’re surrounded by rolling hills and forest trails, yet you can still reach larger towns when you need supplies or want to explore. I mean, the peace here is something you just can’t get in the city — no traffic noise, just birds and the occasional distant church bell.

The Accommodation

My room was simple but thoughtfully arranged, with wooden furniture that felt sturdy and authentic rather than trying too hard to be rustic-chic. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, and I loved the little touches like locally-made textiles and that perfect reading corner by the window. What really impressed me was how clean everything was — you can tell the owners actually care about maintaining the place properly.

Dining & Atmosphere

The on-site restaurant serves traditional Slovak dishes that taste like someone’s grandmother has been perfecting the recipes for years. I had this incredible goulash that was rich and warming — exactly what you want after spending the day hiking around the area. The dining room has this cozy, communal feel where you might end up chatting with other guests, which honestly added to the whole experience.
