You’re basically in the middle of nowhere here, which is either perfect or terrible depending on what you’re after. The village of Gôtovany has maybe 200 people, so don’t expect bustling nightlife — but that’s sort of the point. I mean, you’re about 20 minutes from Trenčín if you need actual civilization, but the real draw is being surrounded by proper Slovak countryside. The silence at night is almost unsettling if you’re used to city noise, but I found it oddly restorative.

The Room Experience

My room was larger than I expected, with those heavy wooden beams that actually look structural rather than decorative. The furnishings lean traditional — think carved wood furniture and folk-inspired textiles — but everything felt clean and well-maintained. What really struck me was the attention to small details: proper blackout curtains, a coffee setup that actually works, and views that make you want to sit by the window longer than you planned.

Dining & Atmosphere

The restaurant downstairs serves hearty Slovak fare that’s clearly made by someone who knows what they’re doing. I had the best goulash I’ve tasted outside of my Slovak friend’s grandmother’s kitchen — and that’s saying something. Breakfast isn’t fancy, but it’s substantial and includes local specialties you won’t find at chain hotels. The dining room has this cozy, almost family-like atmosphere where you end up chatting with other guests without really planning to.

Look, this isn’t the kind of place you stumble upon by accident — you have to actually want to be in rural Slovakia. But if you’re looking for an authentic experience away from tourist crowds, Chalupa Miška delivers something genuinely special.
