When I first pulled up to Prázdninový dům in Uherský Ostroh, I’ll be honest — I wasn’t sure what to expect from this unique boutique hotel without official star rating. The address says U Lesa 406, which literally translates to “By the Forest,” and that’s exactly where you’ll find yourself. It’s this quiet residential street where the town sort of melts into the countryside, and you can actually hear birdsong instead of traffic noise.

The Setting

This place sits right on the edge of the Moravian woods, about fifteen minutes from the town center of Uherský Ostroh. You know what struck me most? The way they’ve managed to feel completely secluded while still being close enough to walk to a decent restaurant for dinner. The Morava River isn’t far either — maybe a ten-minute bike ride — which gives you that perfect escape-to-nature vibe without feeling stranded.

The Space

Each room here feels more like staying in a thoughtfully designed home than a typical hotel. Mine had this lovely mix of traditional Czech elements and modern comfort — wooden beams overhead, but with excellent Wi-Fi and a spotless private bathroom. The whole place has this boutique sensibility where someone clearly cared about every detail, from the locally-made ceramics to the way the windows frame views of the surrounding trees.

What Makes It Special

I mean, with a 9.6 rating, you’d expect something good, but this exceeded that. The owners (who live on-site, I think) have this genuine warmth that makes the whole experience feel personal. They’ll chat about local hiking trails over breakfast or recommend which villages nearby are worth exploring. There’s parking right on the property, which honestly saved me a lot of stress navigating those narrow Czech streets with a rental car.

Why Guests Love It

It’s the kind of place where you actually slow down and breathe differently. Mornings here start with coffee on a small terrace looking out at forest, and evenings end with that particular quiet you only get in places like this. The location puts you within easy reach of Moravian wine country, but far enough from tourist crowds that you feel like you’ve discovered something special. Plus, the value is incredible — you’re getting boutique-level attention and atmosphere at prices that would barely cover a chain hotel room elsewhere in Europe.
