The moment I pulled up to Apartmány Pemmeva in Vyšná Boca, I knew this wasn’t your typical hotel stay. This three-star property sits quietly in the hills, and honestly, the setting is what makes it special — you’re basically in the middle of the Low Tatras region with mountain views that’ll have you reaching for your camera before you even check in. The building itself has that clean, modern Slovak mountain lodge feel without being pretentious about it.

Location & Getting Around

Vyšná Boca is one of those places where you actually want to be “in the middle of nowhere.” I mean, you’re about 20 minutes from the larger town of Ružomberok, but the whole point is being tucked away in nature. The hiking trails basically start from your doorstep, and if you’re into skiing, the Chopok area is totally doable for day trips. You’ll definitely want a car here — public transport is pretty much non-existent, but that’s sort of the charm.

Each apartment comes with its own kitchen, which I actually used more than I expected. There’s something satisfying about making coffee in the morning while looking out at the mountains, you know? The room layouts are practical rather than fancy, but they’re clean and well-maintained. The kitchenette has everything you need for basic cooking, and honestly, given how remote the location is, having that flexibility is pretty valuable.

Activities & Surroundings

This is where Apartmány Pemmeva really shines — the outdoor access is incredible. I spent most of my time hiking the marked trails that wind through the surrounding forests and meadows. During summer, the wildflower meadows are stunning, and in winter, you’re looking at serious cross-country skiing territory. The staff gave me some solid recommendations for local trails, including a few that most tourists don’t know about.
