When I first pulled up to Villa Merry in Stará Lesná, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a quiet residential street. But stepping inside this four-star gem completely changed my perspective — there’s something genuinely welcoming about the place that hits you right away. The staff actually remembers your name after the first day, which sounds small but makes all the difference when you’re staying somewhere for more than a night or two.

You know what’s brilliant about this spot? It sits right in the heart of the High Tatras, but tucked away on Jarná ulica where you get that perfect balance of accessibility and tranquility. Vysoké Tatry can get pretty hectic during peak season, but Villa Merry feels like you’ve found this little pocket of calm. The hiking trails are literally at your doorstep — I mean, you can roll out of bed and be on a mountain path within ten minutes if you’re into that sort of thing.

The Accommodation

My room was surprisingly spacious for what I expected from a mountain villa, with those classic Slovak touches that feel authentic rather than forced. The windows frame the Tatras beautifully, and honestly, waking up to that view never gets old. What impressed me most was how quiet everything stayed at night — the walls are properly insulated, so you’re not hearing every footstep in the hallway or your neighbor’s TV.

The on-site restaurant serves up solid Slovak cuisine without any pretensions — think hearty goulash and fresh trout that actually tastes like it came from local waters. Breakfast runs until a reasonable hour (none of that “sorry, we stopped serving at 9 AM” nonsense), and there’s decent parking right on the property, which you’ll appreciate if you’re driving through the mountains. The spa area is modest but well-maintained, perfect for unwinding after a day of hiking.

Look, Villa Merry isn’t trying to be the flashiest place in the Tatras, and that’s exactly why it works so well. It’s the kind of place where you can actually relax without feeling like you need to dress up for dinner or worry about making too much noise.
