First Impressions

When I first pulled up to Vershe in Verkhovyna, I’ll admit I wasn’t sure what to expect from this mountain town in the Carpathians. But honestly, this four-star place surprised me right from the start. The building has this clean, modern look that somehow doesn’t clash with the traditional Hutsul architecture you see everywhere else in the area — it’s like they found the perfect balance between contemporary comfort and respecting the local vibe.

Location & Local Scene

Verkhovyna sits pretty high up in the mountains, and I mean that literally — you’re at about 800 meters above sea level here. The air is crisp and clean in a way that actually makes you want to take deep breaths. What I love about Vershe’s spot is that you’re close enough to walk into the town center where you’ll find those authentic Hutsul craft shops, but far enough from any noise to really unwind. The Prut River runs nearby, and on clear mornings you can see the peaks stretching out in every direction.

The Room Experience

My room was spacious and thoughtfully designed — not fancy in a flashy way, but genuinely comfortable. The beds are actually good quality (you know how hotel beds can be hit or miss), and there’s solid WiFi if you need to stay connected. The windows are large, which matters when you’re surrounded by this kind of scenery. I spent more time than I care to admit just looking out at the mountains while having my morning coffee.

Dining & Atmosphere

The restaurant focuses on regional dishes, and they do it well — I’m talking proper borscht and varenyky that taste like someone’s grandmother made them. The staff actually knows the area, which is refreshing. They’ll tell you about hiking trails or where to catch the best sunset views without making it sound like a rehearsed tourist pitch. There’s also convenient parking right on-site, which is honestly a relief when you’re driving mountain roads.

Look, Vershe works because it gets the basics right while giving you access to one of Ukraine’s most beautiful regions. The 9.7 rating makes sense when you experience it — it’s not trying to be something it’s not, but what it does offer is solid and genuine.
