The Accommodation

My room was spotless and surprisingly spacious for a three-star place. The owners, who I’m guessing include Janka herself, clearly put thought into the details — fresh linens that actually smelled good, decent WiFi (which isn’t always a given in rural Slovakia), and windows that opened to mountain views. The bathroom was compact but functional, with hot water that actually stayed hot throughout my shower.

Local Experience

What really sets this place apart is how connected you feel to the area. The hosts gave me tips on hiking trails that I never would’ve found online, and there’s a small restaurant nearby where I had some of the best goulash I’ve tasted outside of Budapest. The village sits near the Orava River, so if you’re into fishing or just want to walk along the water, you’re sorted. Plus, you’re about a 20-minute drive from Orava Castle, which is pretty spectacular if you haven’t seen it.
