Location & Getting Around

Here’s what I really appreciated about the location — you’re far enough from Zakopane’s tourist crowds (about 15 minutes by car) but close enough that you can still hit the main attractions without much hassle. The village of Kościelisko is honestly one of those places where locals still wave at you from their gardens, and there’s a genuine mountain community feel. You’ll want a car here, though — the bus connections exist but they’re not exactly frequent.

The Accommodation

My room was spacious in a way that surprised me, especially considering how compact some mountain hotels can be. The apartment-style layout means you get a proper sitting area and, well, space to actually unpack your things. The mountain views from the windows are the real selling point — I mean, you wake up and there are the Tatras, just sitting there being magnificent. The beds are comfortable, and the heating works perfectly (trust me, this matters in the mountains).

The on-site restaurant serves hearty Polish mountain food that actually tastes homemade rather than mass-produced tourist fare. I had their oscypek (that’s the local smoked sheep cheese) and it was the real deal — probably sourced from shepherds up in the hills. There’s also a small spa area that’s perfect after a day of hiking or skiing, nothing huge but exactly what you need to unwind.
