But that’s actually part of its charm — this four-star property feels more like a well-kept secret than a typical hotel. The timber-accented facade blends beautifully with the Carpathian landscape, and you immediately sense this place was designed by people who actually understand what mountain hospitality should feel like.

Location & Surroundings

Polyana isn’t exactly a household name, but that’s precisely why I loved staying here. You’re deep in the Zakarpattia region, surrounded by rolling hills and dense forests that change color dramatically with the seasons. The ski slopes are close enough for winter sports enthusiasts, but honestly, I found myself more drawn to the hiking trails that start practically at the hotel’s doorstep. There’s something about the crisp mountain air here that makes you want to spend more time outdoors than you planned.

The Room Experience

My room had this perfect balance of rustic charm and modern comfort — wooden beams overhead, but thankfully excellent Wi-Fi and a rainfall shower that actually had proper pressure. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the soundproofing is impressive given the traditional construction style. What really caught my attention was the attention to local details — handwoven textiles and regional artwork that felt authentic rather than touristy.

Dining & Amenities

The on-site restaurant focuses heavily on Carpathian cuisine, which means hearty portions and flavors you won’t find elsewhere in Ukraine. I mean, where else can you get properly prepared banosh with fresh sheep cheese while looking out at forest views? The spa facilities are well-maintained without being overly fancy, and there’s indoor parking which matters more than you’d think during mountain weather. Staff genuinely seem to enjoy working here, which always shows in the service quality.

Why Guests Love It

That 9.8 rating makes complete sense once you’ve spent a night or two here. Smerekovyi Dvir manages to feel both remote and accessible — you’re away from crowds but not stranded. The property has this lived-in quality that makes it feel more like staying at a well-run mountain lodge than a commercial hotel. Plus, the value proposition is excellent for what you get, especially considering the pristine natural setting and the level of personal attention from the staff.
