The name actually makes perfect sense once you’re there. This three-star property has this charming, almost storybook quality that immediately puts you at ease, especially after driving through the winding roads of northern Slovakia.

The Setting

The location on Gäceľská cesta is pretty smart, actually. You’re close enough to Dolný Kubín’s center to walk there easily, but far enough out that you get these lovely views of the surrounding hills. I mean, this part of Slovakia doesn’t get the attention that Bratislava or the High Tatras do, but honestly — that’s part of its charm. The area feels authentic, like you’re experiencing the real Slovakia rather than some tourist version of it.

The Accommodation

My room was surprisingly well-appointed for a three-star place. Nothing fancy, but everything worked perfectly and the beds were genuinely comfortable — which matters more than you’d think after a day of exploring. The staff clearly takes pride in maintaining everything properly, and it shows in the small details. There’s parking right on site, which saved me from worrying about finding a spot in town.

Local Flavor

What I really appreciated was how the place connects you to the local area. The staff — most of whom speak decent English alongside Slovak — actually know their region well and can point you toward hiking trails or local spots that aren’t in any guidebook. The on-site restaurant serves traditional Slovak dishes that taste like someone’s grandmother made them, not hotel food. Try the bryndzové halušky if it’s available — it’s Slovakia’s national dish and they do it properly here.
