When I first pulled up to this three-star guesthouse, I wasn’t expecting much, but there’s something genuinely welcoming about the place that hits you right away. The building itself is modest, sure, but everything feels carefully maintained and thoughtfully arranged.

You know what’s interesting about Vyšné Ružbachy? Most people have never heard of it, but it’s actually famous for its thermal springs — locals have been coming here for centuries to soak in the healing waters. The village is tucked into this beautiful valley in the Spiš region, surrounded by rolling hills and traditional Slovak countryside. I mean, you’re not going to find bustling nightlife here, but if you want to experience authentic rural Slovakia without the tourist crowds, this is your spot.

The Room Experience

My room at Privát Bene was simple but surprisingly comfortable — clean white linens, solid wooden furniture, and windows that actually open wide to let in the mountain air. The owners clearly understand that travelers want the basics done well rather than fancy amenities that don’t work properly. There’s free WiFi throughout (which honestly works better than some hotels I’ve stayed at in Bratislava), and the bathroom was spotless with good water pressure.

Local Thermal Springs

Here’s the thing that makes staying here actually worthwhile — you’re literally a few minutes’ walk from the thermal pools that put this village on the map. The mineral-rich waters are supposed to help with all sorts of ailments, and whether you believe in that or not, soaking in naturally heated pools while looking up at the Slovak mountains is pretty incredible. The main thermal complex isn’t fancy, but it’s authentic and used mostly by Slovak families rather than tour groups.

Why Guests Love It

With a 9.1 rating, Privát Bene clearly does something right, and I think it comes down to honest hospitality and realistic expectations. The owners (I believe it’s actually the Bene family) are genuinely helpful without being intrusive — they’ll give you directions to the best hiking trails or recommend where to grab dinner in the village. The parking is free and right outside, which matters more than you’d think when you’re exploring this part of Slovakia by car. It’s not going to blow your mind with amenities, but sometimes you just want a clean, quiet place to sleep after a day of hiking or soaking in thermal springs, and that’s exactly what you get here.
