First Impressions

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Poiana Golf Chalet in Buşteni — the name made it sound like just another mountain lodge. But this four-star place completely caught me off guard with how polished and thoughtful everything was. The building sits quietly on Strada Poligonului, and you know what? That 9.9 rating actually makes sense once you’re inside.

Location & Setting

Buşteni is one of those Romanian mountain towns that feels refreshingly authentic — it’s not overrun with tourist buses like Brașov can get. The chalet’s positioned perfectly for exploring the Bucegi Mountains, and I mean perfectly. You’re close enough to the Omu Peak cable car that you can actually walk there, but far enough from the main drag that it stays peaceful. The surrounding area has this mix of traditional Romanian architecture and newer developments that somehow works without feeling chaotic.

The Room Experience

My room had this wonderful balance of mountain charm and modern comfort — wood accents everywhere but with properly functioning heating and excellent Wi-Fi (which isn’t always a given in these mountain places). The views toward the Bucegi range are genuinely stunning, especially in the morning when the light hits the peaks just right. What really impressed me was the attention to detail — quality linens, a well-stocked minibar, and windows that actually open properly for fresh mountain air.

Dining & Amenities

The restaurant serves this interesting fusion of traditional Romanian dishes with more contemporary presentations — I had the best ciorbă de burtă I’ve tasted outside of Bucharest, honestly. Breakfast isn’t your typical hotel buffet either; they do made-to-order items alongside the usual spread, which makes mornings feel special rather than rushed. There’s also secure parking right on-site, which is crucial if you’re driving up from the capital or other cities.
