This three-star place literally sits “under the forest,” tucked into the hillside of Repynne village in the Carpathian foothills. The wooden facade and traditional Transcarpathian architecture caught my eye immediately, but what really struck me was how quiet it felt despite being right on Tsentralna Street.

Location & Setting

Repynne isn’t exactly a tourist hotspot, and that’s actually the point. You’re about twenty minutes from Khust, which means you can grab supplies or explore the town’s old castle ruins, but you’re far enough out to really disconnect. The forest starts maybe fifty meters from the hotel’s back door — I mean, you can hear the birds before you even get out of your car. The Carpathian Mountains rise up all around you here, and on clear mornings the views are honestly pretty spectacular.

The Room Experience

My room had this cozy mountain lodge feel without being overly rustic. The wood paneling might sound heavy, but somehow it works — probably because of all the natural light streaming through those oversized windows. What I appreciated most was the attention to local touches: handwoven textiles, ceramic pieces that looked like they came from nearby villages, and a little balcony where I could actually sit with my morning coffee. The bathroom was modern enough, though the hot water takes a minute to get going (pretty standard for this region, honestly).

Food & Local Flavor

The restaurant here serves what I’d call elevated Transcarpathian comfort food. Think hearty stews, fresh trout from mountain streams, and homemade bread that arrives warm at your table. The chef clearly knows the area — my server mentioned they source vegetables from gardens right in the village. Breakfast isn’t elaborate, but the local honey and fresh dairy made even simple scrambled eggs feel special. You know what really impressed me? They had proper Ukrainian borsch that didn’t taste like it came from a packet.

Look, Під лісом isn’t trying to compete with big city hotels, and that’s exactly why it works. The 9.4 rating makes sense when you realize this place delivers something you can’t get in Kyiv or Lviv — genuine mountain hospitality without the tourist crowds. The staff treats you like family (in the best way), there’s actual parking right on site, and you’ll sleep better than you have in months thanks to the mountain air and forest sounds.
