Location & Heart of Town

Being right on Námestie sv.Mikuláša puts you literally in the center of everything this historic town has to offer. I mean, you can’t get more central than this — the square is where life happens here, and you’re watching it all unfold from your window. The castle ruins are just a short walk uphill, and honestly, that’s probably why most people end up in Stará Ľubovňa anyway. What’s nice is that you’re close enough to explore on foot, but the three-star setup means you’re not paying premium prices for the prime location.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was pretty straightforward — clean, functional, with that Eastern European no-nonsense approach to hospitality. Don’t expect fancy amenities or designer touches, but everything you need is there, and the beds are actually quite comfortable. The windows face the square, which is great for people-watching but can get a bit lively on weekend evenings when locals gather at the nearby pubs. The bathroom was recently updated, which you definitely notice and appreciate after a long day of sightseeing.

The Restaurant Scene

Here’s where this place really shines — the downstairs restaurant serves some of the most authentic Slovak food I’ve had outside of someone’s grandmother’s kitchen. The goulash is phenomenal, and they do this incredible schnitzel that’s basically the size of your plate. What I loved is that you’re eating alongside locals who’ve been coming here for years, not just other tourists trying to figure out what to order. The portions are generous (typical for Slovakia), and the prices are refreshingly reasonable.

This isn’t the kind of place you book for Instagram photos or spa treatments — it’s where you stay when you want to experience a real Slovak town without the tourist markup. The staff genuinely cares about making sure you’re comfortable, and they’ll give you the kind of local recommendations that actually matter. Sure, it’s not going to win any design awards, but sometimes what you really need is a clean, comfortable base with great food and people who know their town inside and out.
