First Impressions

Walking into New Generation in Borsec, you immediately sense this isn’t your typical mountain town hotel. The staff genuinely smiles when they greet you — not that rehearsed hospitality thing you get at chain places. I mean, the four-star rating is well-earned, but what struck me most was how they’ve managed to feel both polished and authentically Romanian at the same time.

Location & The Borsec Experience

Honestly, Strada Nouă might sound like just another street, but you’re actually in one of Romania’s most famous spa towns. Borsec’s mineral waters have been drawing visitors for over a century, and you can taste why — the natural springs here are legendary among Romanians. The hotel sits perfectly positioned so you can walk to the main spa facilities, but you’re tucked away enough that tour buses won’t wake you at dawn.

The Room

My room had this interesting blend of modern comfort with subtle nods to traditional Carpathian design. The beds are actually comfortable (you know how hit-or-miss that can be in smaller Romanian towns), and the bathroom had proper water pressure — something I’ve learned not to take for granted in mountain hotels. What I loved was the attention to small details: quality linens, decent Wi-Fi, and windows that frame the surrounding hills beautifully.

Dining & Local Flavors

The hotel’s restaurant surprised me with how well they balance international dishes with regional specialties. Their ciorbă de burtă was honestly better than what I’ve had in Bucharest, and they source ingredients locally when possible. Breakfast isn’t just the usual continental spread either — they include Romanian cheeses and cured meats that actually taste like something. The staff knows their local wines too, which isn’t always a given in smaller properties.

Why Guests Love It

With a 9.8 rating, New Generation clearly gets the basics right, but it’s the extras that make people return. The spa treatments use those famous Borsec mineral waters, and there’s decent parking right on-site (trust me, this matters when you’re exploring the Carpathians by car). What really sets it apart though is the staff’s knowledge of the area — they’ll point you toward hiking trails that aren’t overrun with tourists and know which local thermal baths are worth your time versus the ones that are just tourist traps.
