I’ll be honest — I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to MER Guest House B&B on Strada Nisipului de Sus. The street name literally means “Upper Sand Road,” which sounds sort of unglamorous, but this four-star gem completely caught me off guard. It’s tucked into a quiet residential area where you can actually hear birds instead of traffic, and the building itself has this warm, welcoming vibe that makes you feel like you’re staying with family rather than at a commercial hotel.

The Braşov Advantage

What really works here is the location — you’re in Braşov but away from the tourist chaos of the Old Town. I mean, you can still walk to the main square in about 15 minutes, but you get to come back to this peaceful neighborhood where locals are just going about their daily lives. The nearby streets have these traditional Romanian houses with their red tile roofs, and honestly, it feels more authentic than staying right in the center where every other building is a souvenir shop.

The Room Experience

My room was surprisingly spacious — actually bigger than some apartments I’ve rented in major cities. The B&B clearly takes its 9.5 rating seriously because everything was spotless, and I could tell someone had put real thought into the details. The bed was comfortable (not too soft, not too firm), and the bathroom had this modern shower that actually provided decent water pressure, which you can’t always count on in older European buildings.

The owners clearly know their city well and can point you toward the less touristy hiking trails up to Tampa Mountain or suggest which local restaurant serves the best ciorbă de burtă (if you’re brave enough to try tripe soup). It’s the kind of place where you feel genuinely cared for, and that 9.5 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve stayed here. Plus, with secure parking included, you don’t have to worry about your car while you’re exploring the medieval streets and fortress walls that make Braşov such a special destination.
