I could walk to the town center in about fifteen minutes, and there are decent grocery stores nearby if you need to stock up on snacks or drinks. The local buses run regularly too, though honestly, having a car makes everything easier in this part of Slovakia.

Local Flavor

The staff at Penzión pod Smrekom were genuinely helpful — not just polite, but actually knowledgeable about hiking trails and local spots worth visiting. They pointed me toward this great little restaurant about ten minutes away where I had some of the best bryndzové halušky I’ve tasted outside of a Slovak grandmother’s kitchen. Martin itself is one of those Slovak towns that feels lived-in rather than touristy, which I mean as a complete compliment.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t a fancy place, but it delivers on what matters most when you’re traveling through central Slovakia. The price point makes sense, the location gives you easy access to both Martin’s attractions and the surrounding mountains, and you get that authentic Slovak hospitality that bigger hotels just can’t match. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was planning another hiking trip in the Low Tatras — sometimes the best accommodations are the ones that simply let you focus on why you came to Slovakia in the first place.
