First Impressions

When I first spotted Hunnia – Huntanya on Strada Republicii, I’ll admit I wasn’t sure what to expect from this four-star property in Vlăhiţa. The building has this interesting blend of traditional Romanian architecture with modern touches that immediately caught my eye. You know what struck me most? The way the staff greeted me — there’s something genuinely warm about the hospitality here that feels authentic, not rehearsed.

Vlăhiţa sits in this fascinating corner of Romania where Hungarian culture runs deep, and honestly, that cultural richness shows everywhere around the hotel. The town itself is small enough that you can walk most places, but what I really appreciated was how the hotel staff knew all the local hiking trails and could point you toward the best spots for authentic Hungarian-Romanian cuisine. The surrounding Carpathian foothills are absolutely beautiful if you’re into that sort of thing — and the hotel makes a perfect base for exploring them.

Where You’ll Sleep

My room was spacious and thoughtfully designed, with this nice balance of comfort and local character. The beds are properly comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathrooms are modern without feeling sterile. What I really liked was the attention to details — good lighting for reading, enough outlets for your devices, and windows that actually open for fresh mountain air. The cleaning standards are impressive too, which matters more than people sometimes realize.

Dining and Amenities

The hotel’s restaurant serves both Romanian and Hungarian specialties, and I mean the real deal — not tourist versions. The goulash here is exceptional, and they do this incredible cabbage roll that I’m still thinking about. Breakfast has good variety without being overwhelming, plus they accommodate dietary restrictions without making a big fuss about it. There’s also convenient parking right on-site, which is actually pretty valuable in this area.

I’ve stayed at plenty of four-star properties that felt more like going through the motions, but Hunnia – Huntanya has this authentic charm that makes you want to extend your stay an extra night.
