Walking up to Hotel Tustan on Zolota Banya street, you immediately sense this isn’t your typical mountain retreat. The building has this solid, welcoming presence that somehow manages to feel both modern and rooted in the Carpathian landscape. I mean, the name itself — Tustan — references those ancient rock fortresses scattered throughout this region, and honestly, there’s something fortress-like about how sturdy and reassuring the place feels.

Location & Neighborhood

You know what’s brilliant about Skhidnitsa? It’s got this perfect sweet spot vibe — close enough to the action but far enough to actually hear yourself think. Skhidnitsa sits in this gorgeous valley where the air actually tastes different, cleaner somehow. The hotel’s positioned so you can easily walk to the main attractions, but when you want to escape the day-trippers, you’re already there. The mineral springs that made this area famous are practically on your doorstep, and the hiking trails — well, let’s just say you’ll want to pack good boots.

The Rooms

My room had this thoughtful mix of contemporary comfort and mountain charm that actually worked. The windows frame the surrounding hills beautifully, and there’s enough space to spread out without feeling like you’re rattling around in an oversized suite. The beds are properly comfortable (trust me, after a day exploring the Carpathians, this matters), and the bathroom setup is modern without being sterile. What impressed me most was the attention to small details — decent lighting for reading, enough outlets where you need them, that sort of thing.

The restaurant serves this interesting blend of traditional Hutsul cuisine with more contemporary Ukrainian dishes. I’ll be honest — I wasn’t expecting much, but the food surprised me in the best way. The chef clearly knows the local ingredients and isn’t afraid to let them shine. There’s also a small spa area that’s perfect for unwinding after hiking, and while it’s not enormous, it’s thoughtfully designed and usually not crowded. Parking is straightforward too, which if you’re driving up from Lviv, you’ll appreciate.
