Walking into Hotel Roháč on Námestie M.R.Štefánika, I was struck by how unpretentious it feels — and I mean that in the best possible way. This three-star place doesn’t try to be something it’s not, but what it does, it does really well. The lobby has this comfortable, lived-in feel that immediately tells you this is a place where locals actually hang out, not just another tourist trap.
Location & Neighborhood
You’re right in the heart of Trstená, which honestly works out perfectly if you’re exploring the Orava region. The main square is literally at your doorstep, and I love how you can just step outside and grab a coffee at one of the nearby cafés without having to trek across town. What’s really convenient is the proximity to the bus station — about a five-minute walk — which makes day trips to the surrounding mountains pretty straightforward.
The Room Experience
My room was simple but thoughtfully done, with wooden furniture that felt sturdy rather than cheap. The beds are actually comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathroom was spotlessly clean with decent water pressure. You know what I appreciated? The windows open properly, so you can get fresh mountain air instead of being stuck with recycled AC all night. It’s not fancy, but everything works as it should.
Dining & Atmosphere
The hotel restaurant surprised me — I wasn’t expecting much, but the Slovak dishes they serve are genuinely good. The goulash was hearty and properly seasoned, and they do this excellent trout that I’m pretty sure comes from local streams. The staff here actually seems to enjoy their work, which makes such a difference. They’re happy to chat about hiking trails or recommend places to visit, and their English is solid enough for easy communication.
