You’re about an hour from Spiš Castle, one of Europe’s largest castle complexes, but you’ll have it mostly to yourself if you go early. The hotel staff clued me in on a local train route that’s scenic as anything — the narrow-gauge railway that winds through the mountains. It’s the kind of insider tip that makes a trip memorable.
