Žiar isn’t going to win any awards for nightlife, but if you’re looking to disconnect from city chaos, it’s perfect. The surrounding countryside is gorgeous, especially in late spring when everything’s green and the hiking trails are at their best. I mean, you’re really in the heart of Slovakia here — locals still wave when you walk by, and there’s something refreshing about that. The air quality alone makes it worth the trip from Bratislava or wherever you’re coming from.
Inside the Holiday House
My room was simple but comfortable — clean linens, decent shower pressure, and surprisingly good WiFi for such a remote spot. The furniture has that solid, no-nonsense European feel, and while it’s not fancy, everything works as it should. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night; you know how rare that is these days? The only sounds are maybe some birds or the occasional car passing through the village.
The Local Experience
The owners — I think Laura herself was there when I checked in — speak decent English and genuinely want you to enjoy the area. They pointed me toward a local restaurant that serves traditional Slovak food (the bryndzové halušky was actually incredible), and they know all the good hiking spots that tourists usually miss. There’s parking right on the property, which is handy since you’ll definitely need a car to get around this part of Slovakia.

What could be improved: Nothing everything is beautiful
Krásny nový apartmán, dostatočne vybavený a blízko Žiarskej doliny. Super prostredie pre deti, ihrisko na dvore a k dispozícii detské stoličky aj vanička. Pani majiteľka veľmi príjemná a ochotná, určite sa radi vrátime.
Veľmi príjemný personal, ubytovanie ciste, veľmi vkusne zariadene, kuchyňa dobre vybavená, k dispozícii bol aj kavovar a kapsulami. Perfetne vybavený priestor na grilovanie,cpreiator super vybavený aj pre deti, , preliezky, stolny tenis, stolný...
Pacil sa nam mily a ustretovy pristup majitela, moderne a vkusne zaridena chata s dobrou lokalitou
