First Impressions

When I first pulled up to ForRest Glamping near Počúvadlianske Jazero, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect — glamping can be hit or miss, you know? But this place immediately felt different. It’s tucked into the forest just outside Banská Štiavnica, and the whole setup has this thoughtful, almost architectural quality that sets it apart from your typical camping experience.

The Accommodation

Each apartment here is essentially a beautifully designed tiny home that happens to be in the woods. Mine had floor-to-ceiling windows that made me feel like I was sleeping in a treehouse, but with all the comfort of a boutique hotel. The kitchen was compact but surprisingly well-equipped — I mean, they even had a proper coffee machine, which tells you something about their attention to detail. What really got me was how they managed to make everything feel spacious despite the small footprint.

Location and Setting

The lake is literally a five-minute walk through the trees, and honestly, it’s one of those spots that feels almost secret. Early mornings there are magical — the mist rising off the water, maybe a few fishermen in the distance, complete silence except for the birds. Banská Štiavnica itself is about a 15-minute drive, which is perfect because you get the best of both worlds: easy access to the UNESCO town’s restaurants and sights, but total peace when you want it.

What Makes It Special

You know what struck me most? How they’ve thought about sustainability without being preachy about it. Solar panels are tucked discretely on the roofs, rainwater collection happens quietly in the background, and the whole operation just feels respectful of its forest setting. The parking areas are carved out naturally between trees rather than clear-cut, which might sound like a small thing but it’s actually pretty thoughtful. There’s also a communal fire pit area where guests naturally end up chatting in the evenings — it’s one of those organic social spaces that actually works.

Why Guests Love It

This isn’t your typical hotel experience, and that’s exactly the point. It’s for people who want something different but don’t want to sacrifice comfort for novelty. The 9.8 rating makes perfect sense when you experience how well they’ve executed the concept — everything from the heated bathroom floors to the perfectly positioned outdoor seating shows they’ve really considered how people will actually use these spaces. If you’re looking for room service and a concierge, this isn’t your place. But if you want to disconnect while staying somewhere genuinely special, ForRest Glamping nails it.
