When I first pulled up to Forest Hill Hotel & SPA in Yablunytsya Village, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect — GPS had me winding through some pretty remote mountain roads in the Carpathians. This unique boutique hotel without official star rating doesn’t need fancy classifications when the setting speaks for itself.

Location & Setting

The hotel sits in Urochyshe Dil, which is basically Ukrainian for “a really beautiful spot in the middle of nowhere.” You’re surrounded by dense forest on all sides, and the silence here is something you just don’t get in most places. What’s great is that you’re still close enough to Bukovel ski resort — maybe 15 minutes by car — so you get the best of both worlds. The air up here actually feels different, cleaner somehow.

The Room Experience

My room had floor-to-ceiling windows that made me feel like I was sleeping in a treehouse, except way more comfortable. The design is contemporary but warm — lots of natural wood and stone that fits perfectly with the mountain setting. The bathroom was spacious, and I appreciated the heated floors during my winter visit. You know what struck me most? The complete quiet at night, broken only by the occasional owl or rustling leaves.

Wellness & Dining

The spa here is where they really shine — after a day of hiking or skiing, the treatments using local herbs and honey felt like exactly what my body needed. The thermal pools are small but perfectly maintained, and there’s something magical about soaking in warm water while snow falls outside. The restaurant focuses on Carpathian cuisine with a modern twist, and their trout (caught locally, they told me) was phenomenal. Breakfast featured homemade jams and bread that reminded me why simple done well beats fancy any day.

This isn’t a place for everyone — if you need constant entertainment or easy access to shops and nightlife, you’ll probably go stir-crazy. But if you’re looking to genuinely disconnect and recharge, Forest Hill delivers something most hotels can’t. The staff genuinely cares about your experience rather than just going through motions, and there’s ample parking (which matters more than you’d think when you’re hauling ski gear or hiking equipment). I left feeling like I’d discovered a secret that I almost didn’t want to share — almost.
