You know what’s really special about this place? It’s part of the Horský hotel Poľana complex near Hriňová, which means you’re right in the heart of the Poľana Biosphere Reserve. I mean, you can literally step out your door and be on hiking trails within minutes. The air up here is incredibly crisp — it’s that kind of mountain freshness that makes you want to take deep breaths and actually feel your lungs working.

The Accommodations

My room had this perfect balance of rustic charm and modern comfort that’s honestly hard to find these days. The wooden interiors give you that authentic chalet feel, but everything works exactly as it should — the heating, the plumbing, the Wi-Fi (yes, even up here in the mountains). The beds are seriously comfortable, and I loved falling asleep to complete silence except for the occasional owl or rustling leaves outside.

The restaurant serves traditional Slovak mountain cuisine that’s both hearty and surprisingly refined. I had this incredible goulash that was perfect after a day of hiking, and their homemade bread — well, let’s just say I may have had three pieces. The staff really knows their local ingredients, and you can tell everything is prepared with care rather than just churned out for tourists.
