When I first pulled up to Chata Cementár, I’ll admit I wasn’t sure what to expect from this unique boutique hotel without official star rating. The name itself hints at something industrial — “cementár” means cement plant in Slovak — but what you actually find is this fascinating converted space that’s completely transformed its past. It sits in Belušské Slatiny, which honestly feels like the middle of nowhere until you realize that’s exactly the point.

Location & Character

This place is tucked away in Podhorie, and I mean really tucked away — you’re surrounded by the kind of Slovak countryside that makes you forget cities exist. The industrial heritage isn’t hidden; it’s embraced in a way that actually works. You know what struck me most? The way they’ve kept some of the original concrete elements while making everything feel warm and livable.

The Room Experience

My room was nothing like a standard hotel setup, and that’s what made it memorable. The space felt more like staying in a friend’s thoughtfully designed loft than a typical accommodation. The concrete walls might sound harsh, but they’ve been softened with local textiles and warm lighting that creates this cozy industrial vibe. There’s something oddly soothing about the thick walls — you really don’t hear much from outside.

Dining & Atmosphere

The restaurant area doubles as a communal space where guests naturally end up chatting over meals. I found myself lingering longer than planned, partly because the food was surprisingly good (they source a lot locally), but mostly because the atmosphere just draws you in. The staff knows the area inside and out — they’re the ones who’ll tell you about hiking trails that aren’t in any guidebook.

The 8.3 rating makes sense when you consider this isn’t trying to be everything to everyone. If you want a pool and room service, look elsewhere.
