First Impressions

Chalet du Lac sits right on the edge of Lacul Colibița, and honestly, the setting is what gets you first. From the chalet, you can rent kayaks or just sit on their terrace watching the water change colors as the sun moves across the mountains.

The room I stayed in had these massive windows facing the lake — you know, the kind where you actually want to wake up early just to see the mist rising off the water. Everything feels thoughtfully designed but not over-the-top fancy. The wooden beams and local textiles give it character, while the modern bathroom and heating (crucial up here) show they know what travelers need. You’ll find a little kitchenette area that’s perfect for storing snacks or making coffee before heading out on trails.

Dining and Amenities

Their restaurant focuses on regional Romanian dishes, which honestly makes sense given where you are. The trout comes from local waters, and they do this incredible ciorbă de burtă that actually tastes like your Romanian grandmother made it (if you’re lucky enough to have one). The spa area isn’t huge, but after a day hiking in the Rodna Mountains, that sauna hits different. There’s also adequate parking — important because you’ll definitely need a car to get here and explore the region properly.

Look, this isn’t a place where you’ll find nightlife or shopping — it’s the opposite of that. People come here to disconnect, to hike the Pietrosul Rodnei peak, or to just sit by the lake with a book.
