When I first pulled up to Casablanca in Podu Dîmboviţei, I’ll be honest – I wasn’t expecting much from this small Romanian town. But this four-star hotel completely changed my perspective on what you can find outside the major cities. The building has this understated elegance that feels refreshing after staying in so many cookie-cutter chain hotels. You know what really struck me? The staff actually remembered my name by the second day, which doesn’t happen often anymore.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s the thing about Valea Cheii – it’s one of those addresses that sounds remote but actually works perfectly if you’re exploring the Dâmbovița region. I mean, you’re close enough to larger towns when you need them, but far enough away to feel like you’ve escaped the usual tourist crowds. The parking situation is fantastic – they’ve got plenty of free spots right on site, which saved me from the usual Romanian parking headaches. Couples seem to really get this location (the 9.5 rating makes sense), and I can see why – there’s something romantic about being tucked away in the countryside together.

The Room Experience

My room was honestly better than I expected for a smaller property. The beds are properly comfortable – not just decent, but actually good – and the bathrooms have been updated recently. What I appreciated most was the attention to small details: proper lighting for reading, enough outlets near the bed, and windows that actually open for fresh air. The housekeeping is thorough without being intrusive, and they don’t go overboard with towel animals or anything gimmicky like that.

Dining & Amenities

The hotel’s restaurant surprised me – they’re doing traditional Romanian dishes but with a lighter touch than you usually find. I had this incredible ciorbă de burtă that didn’t leave me feeling heavy for hours afterward. The portions are generous without being overwhelming, and they source quite a bit locally, which you can taste in the vegetables especially. Breakfast runs until a reasonable hour, so you don’t have to rush down at dawn to get decent coffee.

Why Guests Love It

That 9.8 rating isn’t just numbers – it reflects how this place gets the fundamentals right consistently. The Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building, the hot water doesn’t run out, and when you ask for an extra pillow, it shows up within minutes. It’s the kind of place where everything just works smoothly, which is rarer than it should be. For couples especially, there’s something appealing about a hotel that feels personal rather than corporate – you can have real conversations with the staff about local hiking trails or where to find the best mici in the area.
