Casa Crina sits in the village of Vale, just outside Sălişte, and honestly — the moment you pull up, you know you’ve found something different. It’s this beautiful traditional Romanian house that’s been thoughtfully converted into a four-star guesthouse, but without losing any of its authentic charm. The wooden balconies and painted details immediately tell you this isn’t your typical chain hotel.

Location & The Surrounding Area

What I love about this spot is how it gives you the real Transylvanian experience without being touristy. You’re actually staying in a proper Romanian village where locals still go about their daily lives — there’s something refreshing about waking up to the sound of farm animals rather than traffic. The Cindrel Mountains are right there, which means incredible hiking if that’s your thing, and you’re only about 20 minutes from the larger town of Sălişte if you need supplies or want to explore more.

The Accommodation

The room I stayed in had this perfect mix of traditional Romanian furniture and modern comfort that actually works. You know how sometimes these heritage places can feel stuffy or impractical? Not here. The beds are genuinely comfortable, there’s reliable WiFi (which honestly surprised me given the rural location), and the bathroom was spotless with good water pressure. Each space feels carefully designed rather than just thrown together.

Dining & Atmosphere

The breakfast situation is where Casa Crina really shines — they serve local specialties alongside the usual continental options, and you can tell they source ingredients from nearby farms. The restaurant area has these massive wooden tables where guests end up chatting with each other, which creates this lovely communal atmosphere. I mean, where else can you compare hiking routes with a family from Bucharest while eating homemade cheese?

Why Guests Love It

That 9.3 rating makes complete sense once you’ve spent a night here. The owners clearly put thought into every detail — from the traditional textiles in the rooms to the way they’ve preserved the building’s character while adding modern conveniences like proper heating and parking space. It’s the kind of place where you actually slow down and appreciate being somewhere different, rather than just passing through. Plus, if you’re planning to explore the Carpathians or visit nearby Sibiu, this gives you a much more authentic base than staying in the city center.
