When I first pulled up to Cabane de Poveste, I honestly thought I’d stumbled into some fairytale setting. The name literally means “Fairy Tale Cabin,” and they weren’t kidding around. This four-star gem sits just outside Bran, tucked away on Calea Zanoaga where the tourist crowds thin out but you’re still close enough to hit Dracula’s Castle without breaking a sweat.
The Setting
You know what struck me most? The way this place manages to feel completely removed from everything while being ridiculously practical. I mean, you’re literally five minutes from Bran Castle, but when you’re sitting on their terrace, all you hear are birds and maybe the occasional cow bell from the surrounding hills. The Carpathian Mountains just sort of wrap around you — it’s the kind of view that makes you understand why Romanians are so proud of their countryside.
The Room Experience
My room had this perfect blend of rustic charm and modern comfort that actually works. Think exposed wooden beams and traditional Romanian textiles, but with heating that doesn’t require you to chop firewood and WiFi that doesn’t cut out every ten minutes. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious, and honestly, after a day of castle-hopping and hiking, that rainfall shower felt like pure magic.
Food and Hospitality
The owners — they’re this lovely Romanian couple — run the place like they’re hosting family. Their restaurant serves up traditional dishes that you won’t find in the touristy spots down in Bran village. I had the best mici (Romanian grilled meat rolls) of my entire trip there, paired with homemade bread that was still warm. Breakfast comes with local honey, fresh eggs, and strong Romanian coffee that’ll wake you right up.

Here’s the thing — with a 9.8 rating, this place is doing something very right. It’s that rare spot where the photos don’t oversell the reality. The parking is free and right on-site (which matters more than you’d think when you’re navigating Romanian mountain roads), and the hosts genuinely care about making sure you experience the real Romania, not just the castle-and-go tourist version. Plus, you’re perfectly positioned for day trips to Râşnov Fortress or even Braşov if you’re feeling ambitious.
