My room was exactly what I needed after a day exploring the High Tatras — spacious, well-designed, and with windows that actually open wide to let in that fresh Slovak mountain breeze. The beds are proper firm (not that mushy hotel nonsense), and there’s plenty of storage space whether you’ve brought hiking boots or cycling gear. You know what I really appreciated? Here’s the thing about Veľká Lomnica — it’s perfectly positioned if you want to explore both the Slovak and Polish sides of the Tatras without dealing with Poprad’s crowds. The hotel sits on Popradská street, which means you’re literally minutes from the cable car that takes you up to Skalnaté pleso. I mean, you could walk there if you wanted the warm-up, but most people just drive the short distance. There’s parking right at the hotel, which honestly saves you a headache during peak season.

The restaurant serves solid Slovak mountain food — think hearty portions that actually make sense after you’ve been hiking all day. They do a particularly good bryndzové halušky (sheep cheese dumplings), and the staff knows their local wines well enough to make decent recommendations. What impressed me was their bike storage and maintenance area — even if you’re not a serious cyclist, it shows they pay attention to details that matter to their guests.
