Here’s what I didn’t expect: Veľký Slavkov is basically your gateway to the High Tatras without the insane crowds of Poprad or Štrbské Pleso. You’re about 20 minutes from serious hiking trails, but you can also just walk around the village and feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The apartment sits perfectly for day trips — I mean, you can hit Spiš Castle or even make it to Kežmarok for the day and still have energy left over.

The room setup is clever — everything you need without feeling cramped, and the kitchen actually works (I’ve stayed in places where you’re afraid to turn on the stove). But if you want a genuine base for exploring the region where you can actually cook your own breakfast and not worry about checkout times, it’s perfect. The 9-rating makes sense when you consider what you’re getting for the price — I’ve paid twice as much for half the space in other mountain towns. Plus, there’s something satisfying about having your own little Slovak apartment for a few days, even if you’re just visiting.
