You’re staying in Ždiar, which is one of those Slovak mountain villages that feels authentically lived-in rather than touristy. The Bachledka ski area is practically on your doorstep, and I mean that literally — you can walk to the lifts in winter. What really struck me is how quiet it gets here in the evenings, with just the sound of wind through the pine trees and maybe some distant cowbells from the meadows below.

The Apartment Experience

The room I stayed in was more like a proper mountain apartment than a typical hotel setup. There’s a full kitchenette with everything you actually need — not just the bare minimum — and the furniture feels sturdy and comfortable rather than hotel-generic. The balcony is where you’ll spend your morning coffee time, trust me. On clear days, you can see all the way to the Polish peaks, and even on cloudy mornings there’s something mesmerizing about watching the mist roll through the valleys.

The parking area sits right at trailheads that lead into the Belianske Tatras, and the staff actually knows these routes — they’re locals who grew up hiking these mountains. In summer, you’ve got mountain biking and hiking literally outside your door, and winter brings some of the most reliable snow conditions in this part of Slovakia.
