First Impressions

When I first pulled up to Apartmán so záhradnou plážou in the small village of Vrádište, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. This unique boutique property doesn’t fit into the typical hotel mold — there’s no star rating system that could really capture what makes this place special. Honestly, that’s part of its charm. You’re basically staying in someone’s carefully crafted vision of what a perfect lakeside retreat should be.

The Setting

Here’s what you need to know about Vrádište — it sits right on the shores of Orava Reservoir, one of Slovakia’s largest artificial lakes. The village itself is tiny (we’re talking maybe 400 people), but that’s exactly why this works so well. You wake up to complete silence except for water lapping against the shore. The apartment gives you direct access to what they call their “garden beach,” which is essentially a private slice of lakefront with loungers and a small dock.

The Space

The apartment itself feels more like staying at a friend’s well-appointed lake house than a typical rental. There’s a proper kitchen stocked with everything you’d actually need — not just the bare minimum you usually get. I mean, they even had a decent coffee grinder, which tells you something about the attention to detail. The main room opens directly onto a terrace that leads down to the water, so you’re literally steps from taking a swim before your morning coffee.

What Makes It Work

You know what really impressed me? The owners clearly understand that people come here to disconnect, but they don’t make you suffer for it. The WiFi actually works when you need it, the shower has proper pressure, and there’s enough space to spread out without feeling cramped. During summer months, the lake is warm enough for comfortable swimming — something locals will tell you, but you might not expect this far north. The parking is right there, which matters when you’re hauling lake gear and groceries from the nearest town.

Why Guests Love It

This isn’t the kind of place where you’ll find a spa or fancy restaurant — you’re here for something completely different. It’s about having your own little corner of one of Slovakia’s most beautiful lakes, with the freedom to cook your own meals and move at your own pace. The nearest grocery store is about 15 minutes away in Dolný Kubín, so you’ll want to stock up, but that planning becomes part of the rhythm. Most guests I talked to were either families looking for a proper lake vacation or couples who wanted something more authentic than the usual hotel experience.
