Here’s the thing about staying in Huncovce instead of the bigger resort towns — you’re literally twenty minutes from both the High Tatras hiking trails and Spiš Castle, but you’re paying about half what you’d spend in Poprad or Tatranská Lomnica. The village itself is proper Slovakia, where old ladies still tend their gardens and you can buy fresh bread from the local bakery. I mean, it’s not nightlife central, but if you want authentic mountain life without the tourist crowds, this is your spot.
Mountain Base Camp
The room setup works perfectly if you’re planning to explore the region — which, honestly, is why most people end up in this part of Slovakia. You’ve got secure parking right outside (no hunting for spaces), and the hosts actually know the hiking trails well enough to give you proper recommendations. They pointed me toward this lesser-known trail to Belianske Tatry that turned out to be one of my trip highlights.
