When I first pulled up to Apartament KROKUS on Rysulówka street, I’ll be honest — I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a quiet residential area in Kościelisko. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are tucked away where you least expect them. This four-star apartment completely changed my perspective on staying outside the main tourist zones.

Location & Neighborhood

Kościelisko sits perfectly between Zakopane’s hustle and the peaceful Tatra foothills, and honestly, it’s the sweet spot most travelers miss. You’re actually closer to some incredible hiking trails here than you’d be staying right in Zakopane center. The neighborhood feels genuinely Polish — I mean, you’ll hear more Polish than English, which I loved. There’s a small grocery store about a five-minute walk away, and the local bus connections are surprisingly reliable if you want to hop over to Zakopane for dinner.

The Space

The room itself feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a typical hotel. Everything’s been recently updated — clean lines, comfortable furniture, and those little touches that show someone actually cares about the space. The kitchenette is properly equipped (not just for show), which came in handy when I grabbed fresh bread and local cheese from that nearby shop. The bathroom’s modern and spacious, and I particularly appreciated the heated floors during my March visit.

What Makes It Special

On clear mornings, you can see the Tatra peaks just emerging from the mist, and it’s the kind of sight that makes you want to grab your coffee and just stand there for a while. The combination of that peaceful residential setting, properly comfortable accommodations, and easy access to both nature and town creates something that feels both authentic and practical. Plus, there’s decent parking right there — which anyone who’s tried to park in central Zakopane will appreciate immediately.
