Cube caught my attention the moment I walked up to it on Центральна street in Kvasy. The name pretty much says it all — this three-star hotel has this clean, geometric design that stands out against the Carpathian mountain backdrop. You know what surprised me most? How modern it feels for a place tucked away in such a traditional Ukrainian village.

The Heart of Hutsul Country

Honestly, I didn’t expect much from Kvasy before arriving, but this little village completely won me over. You’re literally surrounded by the Carpathians here, and I mean the real deal — not some distant mountain view from a hotel window. The Cube sits right on the main street, which might sound busy, but trust me, “busy” in Kvasy means a few locals walking by and maybe a shepherd with his flock. The silence at night is actually something you notice.

My room had this minimalist vibe that somehow worked perfectly with the mountain setting outside. Clean lines, decent-sized windows, and everything you actually need without the clutter. The Wi-Fi worked better than I expected for a mountain village, which was a pleasant surprise. I appreciated that they didn’t try to overdo the “rustic mountain lodge” theme — sometimes simple just works better.

Exploring the Area

Here’s what the guidebooks won’t tell you — Kvasy is actually a fantastic base for hiking if you know where to look. The hotel staff pointed me toward some trails that most tourists never find, including this incredible route up to the Sheshul peak. There’s also a traditional Hutsul workshop about ten minutes’ walk away where they still make those wooden pipes you see in all the souvenir shops. The restaurant downstairs serves solid Ukrainian mountain food, though don’t expect anything fancy — it’s hearty stuff that hits the spot after a day outdoors.
