This five-star property sits quietly in Hunedoara, and honestly, it feels like stumbling upon a well-kept secret. The entrance has this understated elegance that immediately tells you this isn’t your typical Romanian hotel experience.

What struck me first was how they’ve managed to create genuine luxury without the pretentious atmosphere you sometimes get at high-end places. Here’s the thing about Hunedoara — most people rush through on their way to see Corvin Castle (which is absolutely worth it, by the way), but staying at HEgo gives you a completely different perspective on this historic town. You’re actually within walking distance of the castle, but more importantly, you get to experience the town when the day-trippers leave. The hotel’s position on this quiet street means you’re close enough to everything that matters, but far enough from any noise or crowds.

The restaurant deserves its own mention — the chef clearly knows Romanian cuisine inside and out, but isn’t afraid to add contemporary touches that actually work. I had this lamb dish that was simultaneously traditional and completely modern, if that makes sense. The service throughout the hotel strikes that perfect balance between attentive and respectful of your space. No hovering, but somehow your glass never stays empty for long.

There’s also the practical stuff that matters: reliable parking, excellent WiFi, and staff who genuinely seem to enjoy helping guests discover what makes this region special.
