More importantly, you’re less than 20 minutes by car from Deva’s fortress and maybe 45 minutes from the stunning Corvin Castle in Hunedoara — seriously one of Europe’s most impressive medieval castles that somehow doesn’t get the crowds it deserves.

The on-site restaurant serves solid Romanian cuisine with some international options thrown in. I had this excellent ciorbă de burtă (tripe soup) that rivaled anything I’ve had in Bucharest, and their mici were perfectly grilled. Breakfast is generous — fresh bread, local cheeses, decent coffee, and usually some homemade jams. There’s secure parking right on the property, which is actually a big deal when you’re road-tripping through Romania with rental car concerns.
