Casa Maia Overview
First Impressions
Casa Maia sits quietly on a residential street in Buşteni, and honestly, you might walk right past it if you’re not paying attention. It’s not flashy or imposing — just a charming building that feels more like a well-appointed home than a typical four-star hotel. The moment you step inside, though, you realize that’s exactly the point.
Location & Mountain Views
Buşteni is one of those Romanian mountain towns that locals love but tourists often overlook in favor of Brașov or Sinaia. That’s their loss, really — you’re perfectly positioned here for hiking the Bucegi Mountains, and the Omu Peak cable car is just a short walk away. What I really appreciated was how Casa Maia captures those mountain views without the crowds you’ll find at the more famous spots.
The Rooms
My room was larger than I expected, with wooden floors that creaked just enough to remind you you’re in an older building — but in a good way. The furnishings strike that tricky balance between traditional Romanian style and modern comfort. You know what surprised me most? The bathroom was genuinely spacious, with a shower that actually had proper water pressure (anyone who’s stayed in mountain guesthouses will appreciate this).
Dining & Atmosphere
The restaurant downstairs serves solid Romanian fare, though I’d recommend venturing out for dinner at least once — there’s a fantastic little place called Crama Haiducilor about ten minutes’ walk away that the locals frequent. Breakfast at Casa Maia, however, is worth staying in for. They do this traditional spread with local cheeses and meats, plus some surprisingly good coffee.
Why Guests Love It
Here’s the thing about Casa Maia — it’s not trying to be something it isn’t. You won’t find a spa or fancy amenities, but you will find genuine hospitality and a place that feels authentically Romanian without being kitschy about it. The staff actually know the area well and can point you toward hiking trails that aren’t overrun with tour groups. There’s parking right on site too, which might not sound exciting but becomes pretty important when you’re dealing with narrow mountain streets. For the price point and that 8.7 rating, it honestly delivers exactly what you’d hope for in a Romanian mountain retreat.

Guest Reviews
The owner was super nice and helpful. The grill area is excellent, and the stream flowing at the other side of the fence creates a relaxing background. The rooms are large and the bed is very comfortable. What could be improved: The kitchens at each...
Nice location, mountain and garden view, comfortable room with a balcony.
What could be improved: -
Greath stuff, beautiful view, good price, clean room!
I liked that it was near the train station and we had a lot of facilities near us. We made our tea in the morning and evening there, we warmed our food in the microwave and it was more than quiet because from the balcony we could hear a beautiful...
We stayed at the property for 3 days and 2 nights. The host accepted our request to come earlier as we arrived before the check in time. The view from our balcony was amazing as well as the location of the property. What could be improved: The only...
Peaceful, quiet, friendly and accomodating staff
a beautiful experience ... the room is very nice.. I recommend you to go there..
The Casa Maia's location and cosy atmosphere were what make the place perfect for mountain enthusiast. What could be improved: The internet was nonexistent on the 3rd floor. Also, there should be some investment on the property. Like the balcony...
What could be improved: The only comment I have regarding an improvement: the balcony railing was a little shaky and potentially dangerous if not fixed.
The room was pretty clean. The staff was friendly.
What could be improved: The balcony door from our room wouldn't open (paid for room with balcony). Fridge smelled and had to clean. Toilet button was half missing and so flushing was a problem.
