First Impressions

Walking up to Mirrors Old Town Central on Piața Teatrului, you’d never guess from the outside that you’re about to step into one of Brașov’s most thoughtfully designed stays. It’s tucked into a typical Romanian apartment building — which honestly threw me off at first — but that’s exactly what makes this four-star property so special. The location puts you right in the heart of the old town’s theater district, and I mean right there.

The Space

This isn’t your typical hotel setup. What you get is essentially a beautifully renovated apartment that feels like someone’s stylish city home, complete with original hardwood floors and those impossibly high ceilings you find in old European buildings. The room I stayed in had these gorgeous vintage mirrors (hence the name) that somehow made the space feel twice as large. There’s a full kitchen stocked with everything you’d actually need, which came in handy when I picked up fresh bread and local cheese from the market just down the street.

Location Benefits

You know what I love about staying here? You can walk to Tampa Mountain’s cable car in about ten minutes, and the Black Church is literally around the corner. But more importantly — and this is something you don’t realize until you’re here — you’re staying where locals actually live and work. The building sits right on the main theater square, so there’s this gentle buzz of activity without the tourist chaos you get closer to the main square. Parking can be tricky in this part of town, but they’ll sort you out with local options.

Daily Rhythms

Mornings here feel different than in a regular hotel. You’ll hear the city waking up — coffee shops opening, people heading to work — and it gives you this authentic slice of Romanian city life. The windows face the square, so you get natural light flooding in most of the day. I spent quite a bit of time just watching the rhythm of the neighborhood from those big windows. There’s no formal restaurant on-site, but honestly, with that kitchen and the incredible local eateries within walking distance, you don’t miss it.

The thing about Mirrors Old Town Central is that it strikes this perfect balance between comfort and authenticity. You get the privacy and space of your own place, but with the service and attention to detail of a well-run hotel. The host clearly knows Brașov inside and out — they left me a handwritten list of local spots that I never would have found otherwise. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re actually experiencing the city rather than just passing through it, which is pretty rare these days.
