This four-star guesthouse has that understated mountain charm that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled onto something locals have been keeping to themselves. The wooden facade blends perfectly with the surrounding landscape — it’s not trying to impress anyone, which somehow makes it more impressive.

What struck me most about the location is how perfectly positioned it is for exploring the Maramureş region. You’re literally minutes from the Borşa ski area, but more importantly, you’re at the gateway to some of Romania’s most spectacular hiking trails. The Pietrosul Rodnei peak trail starts practically from your doorstep, and I mean that — locals will tell you it’s one of the best kept secrets in the Carpathians.

The Accommodation Experience

My room had this perfect balance of rustic mountain style and modern comfort that’s surprisingly hard to find. The wooden beams overhead felt authentic (not that fake rustic look some places go for), and the heating was excellent — which matters when you’re staying in the mountains. The beds are genuinely comfortable, and there’s something about waking up to mountain views that the photos just can’t capture properly.

The breakfast situation here is actually fantastic, though they keep it simple and focus on local ingredients. You know what I appreciated most? They serve real mountain honey and homemade preserves that taste like someone’s grandmother made them yesterday. The hosts know exactly where to send you for dinner in town — there’s this little restaurant they recommended that serves the best ciorbă de burtă I’ve had outside of Bucharest.
