First Impressions

When I first pulled up to WOODLAND apartment and sauna in Donovaly, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from this three-star spot tucked into the Slovakian mountains. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries are the ones that surprise you. This place sits right in the heart of one of Slovakia’s most charming ski resorts, and there’s something refreshingly authentic about it — no pretense, just genuine mountain hospitality.

The Space

The apartment itself is exactly what you’d want after a day exploring the Low Tatras. It’s got that cozy, lived-in feeling without being cramped, and honestly, having your own space makes such a difference when you’re traveling. The layout works well — you’re not tripping over your luggage or fighting for bathroom time. What really caught my attention though was how thoughtfully everything was set up, like someone actually considered what guests would need rather than just checking boxes.

The Sauna Experience

Here’s where WOODLAND really sets itself apart — that sauna is absolutely worth the stay alone. After spending hours on the slopes or hiking the mountain trails, there’s nothing quite like unwinding in your own private sauna. I mean, most places this size don’t even offer amenities like this, but here it feels like a natural part of the experience. It’s one of those details that transforms a simple mountain getaway into something actually restorative.

Location & Getting Around

Donovaly itself is this perfect middle ground — not so touristy that it feels artificial, but developed enough that you’ve got what you need. The ski lifts are practically on your doorstep during winter, and in warmer months, the hiking trails spider out in every direction. What I really appreciated was having parking sorted — in mountain towns, that’s not always a given, and scrambling to find a spot after a long drive is the last thing you want to deal with.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t going to be the fanciest place you’ve ever stayed, but that’s sort of the point. WOODLAND delivers on what actually matters when you’re in the mountains — comfort, space, and those little touches (like the sauna) that make you feel like you’re getting more than you paid for.
