Walking down Novozámocká Street, you’ll spot Apartment Melita – The very centre of town tucked right into the heart of Banská Štiavnica. I mean, the name doesn’t lie — you really are smack dab in the middle of everything here. The building has that typical Central European charm, nothing fancy but solid and welcoming in a way that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled onto something locals would actually recommend.

Here’s what I love about this spot — you can literally walk to the main square in about two minutes, maybe three if you’re dragging luggage. The Old Castle looms above you, and Trinity Square with all its colorful houses is right there when you step outside. You know what’s great? You don’t need to worry about parking downtown because everything’s within walking distance. The steep cobblestone streets that make this UNESCO town so photogenic are suddenly your neighborhood.

This three-star place gets the basics absolutely right. The apartment I stayed in was clean and well-equipped, with a proper kitchenette that actually works — I made coffee every morning and even cooked a simple dinner one night. The room setup is practical rather than Instagram-perfect, but honestly, you’re not here to spend time indoors anyway. The bed was comfortable, the WiFi worked fine, and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped.

Local Experience

What surprised me was how quiet it gets at night, even though you’re right in the center. I guess that’s the advantage of staying in a historic town rather than a big city — the evening calm lets you actually hear the church bells. The nearest restaurant is literally next door, and there’s a small grocery store around the corner if you want to stock up the kitchen. The thermal baths at Počúvadlo Lake are about a 10-minute drive if you have a car, though I walked it once and regretted nothing.

Look, this isn’t going to wow you with fancy amenities or a concierge service, but that 8.6 rating makes perfect sense when you’re here. It’s the kind of place where everything just works — you get a clean, comfortable base right where you want to be, at a price that won’t make you wince. The host was helpful with local tips, and check-in was straightforward. For exploring one of Slovakia’s most beautiful medieval towns, you really can’t ask for a better starting point than this.
