First Impressions

When I first walked into Aura on Staromestská Street, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from a three-star place in Banská Štiavnica. But you know what? Sometimes the smaller hotels get it right in ways that bigger places miss completely. The lobby has this understated elegance — nothing flashy, just clean lines and warm lighting that immediately puts you at ease.

Location & the Medieval Charm

The location is pretty fantastic, actually. You’re right in the heart of this UNESCO World Heritage town, which means those cobblestone streets and medieval buildings are literally outside your door. I spent my first morning just wandering around — the Old Castle is maybe a 10-minute walk uphill, and honestly, the views from up there are worth the slight climb. What I really appreciated was how quiet Staromestská Street gets in the evenings, despite being so central.

The Room Experience

My room was on the second floor, and I’ll be honest — it wasn’t huge, but it felt thoughtfully designed. The windows are decent-sized, so you get good natural light during the day, and the bed was surprisingly comfortable for a three-star place. The bathroom is compact but modern, with a shower that actually has proper water pressure (you’d be amazed how often hotels get this wrong).

Dining & Local Flavors

The hotel doesn’t have its own restaurant, but that’s actually not a problem here. There’s a great Slovak place called Erb literally two doors down — I mean, you can practically smell the goulash from the hotel entrance. The staff at Aura gave me some solid recommendations for other spots too, including this little wine bar that serves local Štiavnica region wines. I appreciated that they seemed to actually know the neighborhood rather than just pointing tourists toward the obvious places.

Why Guests Love It

What really sets this place apart is the attention to detail and that 9.4 rating makes complete sense once you’ve stayed here. The staff remembers your name after one conversation, housekeeping is thorough without being intrusive, and there’s free parking right behind the building — which, trust me, is a huge deal in these narrow medieval streets. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, and that authenticity is refreshing. You’re getting a solid, comfortable base for exploring one of Slovakia’s most beautiful towns, without paying premium prices for unnecessary extras.
