Here’s what sold me on this place: you’re essentially staying on Chopok’s doorstep. The Chopok Juh cable car station is so close you could walk there in ski boots without wanting to cry. I’ve stayed at places that claim to be “ski-in, ski-out” but require a shuttle ride — this isn’t one of those situations. When the lifts open at 8:30 AM, you can literally roll out of bed at 8:15 and still be among the first on the mountain.

Local Area

Horná Lehota isn’t exactly a bustling resort town, but that’s actually part of its charm. There’s a decent restaurant within walking distance that serves proper Slovak mountain food — think hearty goulash and fresh trout that’ll fuel you for a full day of skiing. The village grocery store stocks the essentials, though I’d recommend bringing specialty items from Banská Bystrica if you’re planning to cook much. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night — you can actually hear the wind in the trees instead of party noise from neighboring rooms.

Look, this isn’t a spa resort with marble bathrooms and room service. But if you want a comfortable base camp for exploring the Low Tatras without paying resort prices, Apartmán Alpinka delivers.
