When I mentioned wanting to find some good hiking that wasn’t too crowded, they pointed me toward trails that I never would’ve found on my own. There’s also a small restaurant about ten minutes down the road that serves some of the best goulash I’ve had in Slovakia — the kind of local spot you only discover through recommendations like this.

The owners are present but not intrusive, parking is right there (important when you’re hauling ski gear or hiking equipment), and the whole place has this authentic mountain cottage atmosphere that feels increasingly rare.
