My room had these lovely wooden beams and traditional textiles that actually complemented each other (not always a given with folk-inspired decor). The bathroom was modern and spotless, which I appreciated after a day of exploring dusty monastery grounds. What surprised me was how quiet everything was at night — just the occasional cow bell in the distance, which sounds cliché but was actually pretty soothing.
Food and Local Flavors
The restaurant serves proper Romanian mountain food, and the chef clearly knows what they’re doing. I had this incredible ciorbă de burtă that was better than what I’d eaten in Bucharest — probably because they’re using local ingredients and haven’t dumbed it down for tourists. Breakfast includes local cheeses and honey that taste like they came from down the road, because they probably did. The staff mentioned they work with families in the area, which explains why everything tastes so fresh.
